Our Fall 2026 report: 28 pages, written for owners of care businesses.
Home and community care is a seller's market. More buyers are looking at home health, hospice, home care and adult day businesses than at almost any point on record. But buyers have also raised the bar. They are paying more attention to size, payer mix, state exposure and the strength of the team that will stay after a sale.
We wrote our Fall 2026 Home & Community Care M&A Report for the people who own and run these businesses rather than for investors. It is in plain English, every number is sourced, and it ends with a practical checklist.
Three things owners should know
Size is worth several turns of EBITDA. In GF Data's private transactions, home health agencies with $1–5M of EBITDA sold for an average of 6.6x–6.9x, against 4.3x for those below $1M.
Established agencies are harder to replace. Since May 13, CMS has not accepted new Medicare home health or hospice enrollments. Buyers who want to grow now have to acquire.
Medicaid is changing. Work requirements begin December 31, 2026, and provider-tax limits follow in 2028. Buyers are pricing state exposure more carefully, so owners should understand theirs before going to market.
